FUNDING OPPORTUNITY - Co-producing Improvements in Experience of Care Within a System

BACKGROUND

The NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) sets out clear objectives for the building of quality improvement capacity and capability for staff delivering health and social are.

The CQC (2018) report ‘Quality Improvement in Hospital Trusts: the patient at the centre of QI sharpens the focus on delivering high-quality patient care and aligning improvement activity to outcomes and experience for patients. The report acknowledges that to deliver

this, patients must be involved and enabled as true and equal partners for QI.

In March 2021 a paper was submitted to the Innovation and Quality Committee at NHSE/I, documenting an independent evaluation which captured the innovations made during the pandemic. As a result, critical ingredients for change in implementing Covid-19 related beneficial changes and recovery were endorsed. The top ingredient being the co-production of quality improvements.

The Experience of Care Team can offer funding to up to 8 Integrated Care Boards (Systems) for work on a specific project that supports the development of system wide co-produced improvements in the experience of care. This would build on the approach taken previously with systems in 2019/20 and 2021/2. Learning will be identified and shared to support further co-produced improvements across systems.

The project will aim to demonstrate the impact of co-producing improvements with people in communities and to share the learning of rolling out the methodology across programmes within systems. We particularly welcome applications from systems who will be working with marginalised communities/communities whose voices are seldom heard and addressing health inequalities.
